BeyondMenus adds over 50 new key equivalents or hot keys to QuarkXPress menu items. BeyondMenus stores hot keys in sets. The active hot key set determines which hot keys you see in your menus and can use. The Activate Hot Keys submenu, under the Utilities menu, lists all the hot key sets defined in your QuarkXPress application. BeyondMenus comes with three predefined sets of hot keys; a Default Set, which is QuarkXPress standard hot keys, an Extended Keyboard Set, and a Standard Keyboard Set. However, these sets are just the beginning. You can create and edit new sets based on the command keys needed for specific tasks.
Choose Hot Key Sets from the Edit menu to display the Edit Hot Key Sets dialog box. This dialog box lists all the hot key sets and uses an interface very similar to XPress’ Edit Style Sheets ... dialog.
Use the Locate Menu Entry area of the Hot Key dialog box to tell QuarkXPress how to find the selected menu entry. By Name is the default setting for XPress menu items that can be repositioned by the addition of XTensions. By Position is the default setting for menu items that cannot be repositioned by XTensions.
BeyondMenus also adds a Scripts menu to your QuarkXPress menu bar. Use this menu to organize and quickly access your AppleScripts. You can write additional scripts yourself, or purchase scripts from third parties. (For example, Sal’s AppleScript Snippets.) BeyondMenus comes with five sets of sample scripts, each organized into its own submenu. The sample scripts included with BeyondMenus allow you to quickly access documents, apply frame and line styles, rearrange windows and insert text macros. The Documents submenu is used to hold documents that you access frequently. Frame and Line Templates can be used to quickly assign styles to selected boxes and lines. You can create your own templates and automatically add them to the submenu. The Create Text Macro command stores frequently typed text as macros. You can set hot keys to insert macro text with a single keystroke.
